A group of researchers from this Australian university wanted to find out the effects of beards with respect to sexiness. They provided 8520 women with a set of bearded men’s pictures which vary in the degrees of facial hair.
Clean shaven, stubble, heavy stubble and full beard were the beard types which were exposed to the women. And, they were asked to choose the best pick from the pictures in terms of their preference for having both long-term relationship and short-term relationship.
According to this study published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology, clean-shaven men gets the lowest score in the scale of sexiness. Most of the women choose the guys with heavy stubble which indicates that it is the sexiest beard style.
But, when it comes to a long-term relationship, they choose a full-bearded person. Men with full beard are considered more dominant, masculine and responsible which is a required to maintain a family.

Barnaby Dixson, who is a human behavioral ecologist at the University of Queensland, conducted a research on beard length. He stated the following quote as the findings of his research. He said,
“Our finding confirms that beardedness affects judgments of male socio-sexual attributes and suggest that an intermediate level of beardedness is most attractive while full-bearded men may be perceived as better fathers who could protect and invest in offspring.”
